Caring For Your Textiles

Mud Cloth Scatter Cushions

My previous post was a bit of background on how Mud Cloth is made. I’m thinking it’s fitting that we have a post on here explaining how to take care of your new Spases pillows 🙂 Note that this will apply to our Baule items as well. In this post I’ll walk share some tips to ensure your items stay vibrant for many years to come.

Mud Cloth has a distinct earthy aroma, and this is derived from the natural dyes and mud used in the dyeing process, it adds to the authenticity and charm of the textile.

Washing Instructions:

  • We recommend cleaning your covers only when absolutely necessary. Our recommendation is to get your covers Dry Cleaned to ensure that they are treated gently and handled delicately.
  • However, I’m a Mom and yes, accidents happen, especially in my home. For fresh stains, blot the area with a clean cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing the stain, as this can push it deeper into the fabric. Treat stains promptly with a MILD detergent suitable for delicate fabrics. Start by testing a small inconspicuous area of the fabric first, to ensure it doesn’t cause discolouration.

Handling and usage tips:

  • Rotate your covers every so often to avoid sun damage and uneven fading, especially if your covers are in a sunny spot.
  • Store covers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Mud cloth is more than just a fabric; it’s a testament to centuries-old traditions and cultural heritage. By following our tips, you can ensure that your mud cloth items remain vibrant and beautiful for generations to come. Treat them with the care and respect they deserve, and they will continue to tell their unique stories for years to come. Shop our collection here!
