Baby Talk

I haven’t been on this space for so long! There’s no time for excuses, but I simply had to write this post somewhere to keep a record:-)

This is purely dedicated to the little person currently in my belly. I can’t put into words how to describe that we are in the process of making a totally new face to join our lives, it’s almost ridiculous!

I was in the process of putting together a guest bedroom when we got the news that we were pregnant. By then we had already purchased a double bed and didn’t even think of it being a baby’s room. In retrospect I don’t regret it at all as Corey now has a big boy bed already. What did take me a while though, is trying to figure out how everything would fit without getting rid of the bed. I knew that decoratively, it would have to be minimal and an easy on the eye palette. Oh, the dark blue wall was always in the plan, regardless of having a boy or girl, I’m simply in love with Plascon’s Black Beard!

What did come out of my thinking was that the room had to flow into the rest of our house, sort of like an extension. I decided to work with lots of wood and white, keeping in mind the dark blue wall. Everything sort of evolved from there. Most of the items on the mood board below are what I’ve already purchased, it’s just a case of putting it all together. I’m so happy with the results thus far!

I think this post is just a moment where I can be absolutely clear and still and when eventually looking back at this, remember how special a time it was.

Score!

I haven’t given an update lately on what’s transpired with the Niche project. I knew going in, it would take a while, even though I can’t wait to see the end result.

In the mean time I’ve found a joinery I can partner with for anything wood related. So far he’s made this ledge shelf for our bathroom at home that I’ve been dying to get! A display bench for Niche and these industrial lights I’ve scored for nothing!
These lights were originally hung in a bank in the Durban cbd and he had a few laying around. After negotiations, I’ve scored 6 of these babies for nothing! They’d be perfect for the look we have going on for Niche, I’m thinking of having them sprayed black and suspending them from the ceiling! Can’t wait!

Marble

If you follow my blog, you’d know that I have a endless wish list for so many wants. We’ve been in our new place for almost 2 years now, the first year being lots of renovating and decorating. I must admit that as much as I don’t want to see another contractor ever, it was lots of fun once  they were out of sight and I got to do my thing.

Things have been a bit quiet for this year as we visiting New York again this year and decided that we can’t do all things at once. That being said it hasn’t changed my wish list, but just putting things on hold for now.

Lately I’ve been loving anything marble, I’ve been on the hunt for bathroom accessories and the like. These pics via Pinterest are just everything!

Garden Progress

In honor of our new deck chairs, I just had heiro write this post. Trying a new thing on the blog, if I feel I have the need to record a point in time, I’ll write a post, no matter how insignificant :-)

So, our little grass patch is a 5X5m space, it’s small. Whatever our decision was in terms of garden furniture, it HAS to make sense in terms of our limited space. I’ve been coveting traditional deck chairs for a while now, as you know I have a thing for chairs, I just wanted a pair because they’re so classic! We did consider a sitting room set of outside furniture, but they are just so expensive and just wouldn’t make sense in such a small space. Then we ran into these! Actually, our neighbors got to them first, we went over for a drink and these chairs were sooo comfortable. Turns out they are recycled plastic timber, completely weather proof, can withstand heat, rain and snow. They just made sense and now that they’re in, it was the right decision for the space:-)

I do still want to get a side table of sorts, maybe something vintage.. To finish off the space, I’ve gotten some succulents, our creeper seems to be coming along and hopefully we can get some lighting in soon for summer evenings.

Wishbone

I’m a chair hoarder! I could just collect a room full of chairs if it were possible. These wishbone chairs having been popping up in all my feeds as of late and I love how classic they are. They work perfectly whether it be a dining room or boardroom, just love their versatility.

Keeping it tidy

I’m not a parent, I don’t have kids, but here’s my two cents. Ever feel like you can’t walk into an @Home or Weylandts or the like? The perception is that these stores and furniture aren’t kid friendly enough, there’s just too much white going on, or just ridiculously expensive. So you opt for the more affordable alternative that feels a bit better when you walk into the store.

I decided to write this post because the husband and I are at that stage where we need to start thinking about having kids or not. People who know me knows that I’m into well designed interiors, furniture, whatever and sometimes it may come off as not kid friendly. This for me is the no compromise if we do decide to have a baby. So, I’ve decided to do a round up of well designed furniture and decorative items that is easy on the eye, while being family suited.

1. I love that the sofa is still on trend and classic. The shade of blue also happens to be kid friendly :-)
2. What I love about these throw pillows is that have a playfulness about them. They would look good on a child’s room as well as your couch!
3. The pencil leg coffee table is my favorite! It resembles a drawing table and doubles as a coffee adding family warmth to a space.
4. This bookcase in white is on trend and serves as a display unit too. I’ve added in the basket for extra storage space, should come in really handy especially for a quick tidy up.
